In the Week 6 of BCM 313, Charles, a special guest, was invited to share his work experience and tell us his experience of the whole study process, which benefited me a lot. We should listen to people’s opinions; it is a good opportunity for us to learn and explore the direction of our life in the future. It’s worth thinking about and planning what we should do in the future. I know THAT I am confused, I remember my parents often told me that I should cherish the life in my school days, it was happy. I don’t know what my future should be, I believe no one can predict their future, so I am very looking forward to it, but also very afraid. When we enter the society, we will face different challenges, no matter the environment, social contact, pressure and so on. I knew there was no escaping it and I had to face it.
Charles said, “we are like playing basketball, we don’t know if we’ll make a basket or not, but we have to take the shot.” It is very correct, and it also sets me thinking. As if we need to go through every different stage, as students, we need to learn, even if we don’t like it. As employees, we need to get the job done, even if it’s difficult. A lot of things need to be tried, not just for some reason to give up. As I mentioned in my last blog post, I used to work at Tencent, and I regret that I finally chose to quit. I can know whether I like this job or not because I have such a work experience. People just must try different things to know themselves clearly. So, I think I am still young, so I should not be afraid to face the future.
In addition, Charles, who works as a marketing manager for the Wall Street Journal, said he travels to different countries (Japan, Singapore, India, Australia) every two months. The ability to combine work and travel is very enviable. It’s hard for us to travel right now because of COVID-19. I’m sure he misses working trips too. We never know what’s going to happen in the future, the present is the best. Do not easily give up any opportunity, so you will have unexpected harvest. “It’s a learning process," we need to accumulate experience. To have a rich working life like Charles.
I remember Charles also said; Never stop learning. Learn what you’re really interested in, and that’s where you’ll be in the future. Every day is a new opportunity; Whether we are ready or not, it is entirely up to us. I understand that nowadays many people give up their choice easily, but this is not good, each learning will bring different opportunities. We should keep learning different fields so that we can have more choices in the future. Nowadays, many working people are also studying part-time, which shows that learning can not only enrich our life experience, but also improve their knowledge and value.
Many thanks to Charles for his speech and sharing so much. He really inspires me to keep studying hard and how to face the future.
